Pan-American Highway
Another fun road trip to take is along the Pan-American Highway. However, this route is really long and not suitable if you want to go on a short, quick road trip.
The Pan American Highway is a network of roads that’s 30.000 miles long and it gives you the chance to easily travel to almost every country in North and South America.
During this road trip, you could visit Argentina and Ushuaia for example, and then keep on driving until Alaska. You will pass a lot of different climate zones during this road trip as well, like the boreal forest, arctic tundra, tropical jungles, prairies, mountains, and even arid deserts.
If you want to do this road trip in the best way possible, you will have to spend at least 3 months on the Pan American Highway, but some people take as long as 18 months to complete this trip!
Auckland to Queenstown in New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the most beautiful and safest countries in the world with plenty of things to do, which is why it’s so perfect for your next road trip!
Driving from Auckland to Queenstown here is an amazing experience that you should definitely try if you love road trips.
When you go on a road trip from Auckland to Queenstown, you get to visit Mount Cook National Park as well as Lake Wanaka!

This road trip is perfect for you if you love visiting national parks and it’s truly one of the most beautiful roads you can imagine in the United States! During your trip, you can admire the forested mountains or go for a picnic in nature.
You can also go for a swim in a mountain waterfall or take a hike in Shenandoah! You can complete this road trip quite quickly as well, as you will only need 2 days to drive the entire route.
Cape Town to Cairo
Are you looking for a road trip in Africa? Then you should try driving from Cape Town to Cairo! Colonialist Cecil Rhodes was the first one to get the idea of taking this road trip and he even wanted to build a train line going from Cape Town all the way to Cairo.
Unfortunately, this plan never happened, but luckily you can still do the road trip yourself!
If you want to drive from Cape Town to Cairo, you will need some time though as it can take from 1 month to as much as a year to complete, depending on how slowly you want to take things.
Therefore, not many people have completed this road trip and it can be a challenge when you do want to try it.
You can choose for yourself how you want to travel the distance, as you can drive it yourself, but you could also use public transport, walk, cycle or take an overland bus.
Fraser Island in Australia
Have you always wanted to go on a road trip in Australia? Then you should try a road trip on Fraser Island in Australia! This island is located off the southeastern coast of Queensland in Australia.
The special thing about this island is that it’s actually on the World Heritage site itself and it’s the world’s largest sand island since it’s 120 kilometers long and 24 kilometers wide.
For your road trip on Fraser Island, you have to get to the island by a vehicle on a ferry on River Heads or Rainbow Beach. During your trip, you get the opportunity to camp in the rainforests and even eucalyptus woodland on the island.
Some fun activities for during your road trip are going for a swim or climbing some of the sand dunes for example. The road trip takes approximately 3 days to complete, but you can always take things more slowly if you want to.
