You Can Sleep With a Miniature Horse at This Airbnb in the UK

His name is Basil, an 11-year-old miniature Shetland stallion that stays on the grounds of a 17th century manor surrounded by a picturesque 60 acre estate. And now, you can join him for a sleepover in what is probably the most unique Airbnb stay we’ve ever seen.

Basil shares the stable with two little goats.

Located in Thurgarton, England, the Airbnb is the brain-child of Brittany Sparham who essentially converted an existing stable into a very special apartment during the lockdown of 2020.

She has had the miniature horse for over 8 years now and being friendly with guests and quiet at night he is the perfect sleepover companion.

The stable is connected directly to the bedroom and apartment, but don’t worry – there is a door between the two areas, so you’re not going to wake up in the middle of the night with a Shetland stallion licking your face, unless you let him wander around the apartment, up to you.

According to the Airbnb listing, “Please be aware there is a horse next door and therefore the potential for noise and smell.”

If this already sounds like a lot – it gets even better. In the paddocks, there are also horses, chickens, highland cows, Hebridean sheep, goats, and of course Norwegian Forrest cats in case that wasn’t enough.

There is also an expansive shared backyard where you’ll find all of these animals and beautiful scenery.

Outdoor there is also a log fire with a bbq grill, our outdoor tiki hut/seating area that guests can take advantage of, and they can take a walk across the bridge to check out the various animals, wildlife, and variety of flora that the environment has to offer.

The apartment is fully equipped with a kitchen, patio, indoor fireplace, bathroom with a hot water shower, children’s books and toys, and of course – a miniature horse.

Unfortunately, there is no wifi or TV, but we think the Shetland horse will give you enough entertainment. The apartment sleeps 4 (5 if you include the horse) with 1 bed and 2 bunk beds in the same room.

So far the place has rave reviews (4.91 over 130 reviews) with some guests raving about the comfortable beds, friendly and accommodating host, and the lovely neighbor Basil.

“We can not recommend this stay enough, the photos do not do the place enough justice, everything is so well thought out and planned.

It was a weekend to remember in every way. Basil was kind and patient with our small children, and the accommodation itself was rustic and idyllic.

The host Britt was reliable and friendly and had got everything small detail down to a tee. We will look forward to returning.”
